Training our employees and customers

Training is an essential aspect of our human resources policy: through internal programmes, integration initiatives and skills transfer processes, we ensure that our employees and customers have the skills needed to install and operate high-voltage lines and substations.

Training and specialisation for line workers

Dorsalys’s overhead line workers receive extensive training on the risks linked to their work: this ensures they are able to follow the essential safety procedures and check equipment safety.

To offer this training, we have a training centre that is unique in France with an open-air workshop that provides our teams with an opportunity to practise their work in a real-life situation on pylons fitted with lines of different voltage levels.

Our training policy also includes an ambitious integration component.

We offer work-study training to unemployed people, with between 12 and 24 workers joining the company each year through this programme.

As part of this initiative, Dorsalys works in partnership with Socially Responsible Employer Groups (SREGs), which specialise in recruiting, training and employing people in the energy sector. SREGs present the role of a line worker in the French towns and cities in which Dorsalys is working on installation projects.

The candidate selection stage involves aptitude tests (safety, assembling a bracket, inspecting a substation and climbing a pylon).

The apprentice line workers then undergo training that leads to a qualification. This 2-year programme includes both theory and practice, with learners supported by a tutor who monitors their progress regularly.

In addition, a catalogue of custom training offers technicians the ability to specialise in a range of areas so that Dorsalys can ultimately count on teams with complementary skill sets.

HVB substation training

Transferring skills to our customers is a key step before projects are handed over and operation of high-voltage substations begins.

Hugues DeryckeSubstation director France Europe Northern Area

Dedicated safety training such as the PASS Haute Tension and NFC 18-510 certification (HVB) retraining means our experts can safely work on high-voltage sites.

Installation and renovation of HVB substations requires specific skills, which our employees gain through in-house training, including:

- training multi-skilled HV/LV civil engineering line workers;

- training on load absorption (HVB anchoring);

- training on maintaining and operating private HVB substations.

Upon request, expert trainers deliver vocational modules tailored to customers’ needs in compliance with the NFC 18-510 standard. These training programmes take place on the work site or in our approved in-house HVB substation training centre.
